What does "Mississippi" mean?

I've read that Mississippi means one thing or another a few times. I've read it means "father of the river" or"great muddy" but what really interests me and strikes me as a good laugh is that I read somewhere that it really translates to "asshole" in the Native American language it comes from. any help?
